Crown Attorneys Appointed in Sydney and Shubenacadie


Peter Harrison has been appointed a Crown attorney in Sydney and Aaron Martens has been appointed a Crown attorney in Shubenacadie.

Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, announced the appointments today, July 6.

“Both Mr. Harrison and Mr. Martens have a good foundation in criminal law which makes them valuable additions to our team of Crown attorneys,” said Mr. Herschorn.

A native of Sydney, Mr. Harrison graduated in 2008 from Dalhousie University with a bachelor of arts in political science and in 2009 from the University of Toronto with a master of arts in political science. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick law school in 2013.

Mr. Harrison articled with The Breton Law Group in Sydney and then went into private practice concentrating on criminal defence work. Over the last year, he has also acted as a per diem Crown attorney for the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service.

Mr. Harrison is active in his community as a director of the Autism Society of Cape Breton and as a special advisor to the board of directors of the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank.

A native of Vancouver, Mr. Martens graduated in 2001 from Trinity Western University with a bachelor of arts in communications and from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2012. Between degrees, he worked in sales and as a technician.

Mr. Martens articled with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice and later joined Bacchus and Associates Law Firm where he concentrated on criminal defence work and family law.

He has volunteered with the Dalhousie Law Students’ Society and as a researcher in domestic violence with the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund.
