The Public Prosecution Service has appointed Scott Hughes as Crown attorney in Yarmouth and Brian Cox as Crown attorney in Halifax.
Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, announced the appointments today, April 17.
“I am pleased that both Mr. Hughes and Mr. Cox have joined our team of Crown attorneys,” said Mr. Herschorn. “Their education and prosecutorial experience will be a valuable asset to the Public Prosecution Service.”
A native of Dartmouth, Mr. Hughes graduated from Dalhousie University in 1995 with a bachelor of arts in political science. From 1996 to 1999 he studied music at Dalhousie and in 2003 graduated from Dalhousie Law School.
After articling with Nova Scotia Legal Aid until 2004, Mr. Hughes spent time in South Korea teaching advanced English. In 2007, he was appointed a prosecutor with Halifax Regional Municipality, and in 2009, Mr. Hughes joined Walker Dunlop in Halifax where he practised criminal, civil and family law. In 2010, Mr. Hughes was appointed a prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada in Nunavut, conducting prosecutions both under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
Mr. Cox attended the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, in 2003 under the Canadian Robert T. Jones, Jr. Scholarship-Exchange Program and graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2005. He graduated from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2010 with a combined bachelor of laws-master of business administration degree.
Mr. Cox articled with Torys LLP in Toronto for a year before joining Alberta Justice as a Crown prosecutor. In 2013, Mr. Cox joined WMCZ Lawyers in Saskatoon where he specialized in commercial litigation and insolvency matters.
