Cumberland County RCMP investigate fatal collision on Highway 104, Westchester Mountain, N.S.

RCMP are currently on scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 104.

At 6:15 p.m., Cumberland County RCMP, Westchester Fire Dept, Emergency Health Services (EHS) and Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR) responded to a serious two motor vehicle collision on Highway 104 east of exit 8.

Preliminary investigation determined that the lone driver of a tractor trailer traveling eastbound collided with a van that was towing a utility trailer also traveling eastbound. One of the four occupants of the van, a 6-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at the scene. All four were taken to the Colchester County Hospital with undetermined injuries, the driver of the truck was not injured.

The eastbound traffic is being diverted onto Trunk 4 at Exit 7. A traffic analyst has been called to assist with the investigation. RCMP advise motorists roads are slippery and to avoid the area if possible. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
