Curbs, gutters, asphalt, crosswalks: Parkland Drive gets the works starting May 27

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of upcoming traffic delays on Parkland Drive, between Kearney Lake and Farnham Gate roads.

These traffic delays are required to facilitate road maintenance and infrastructure work in this area, which are expected to begin on Wednesday, May 27, continuing for approximately six to eight weeks.

Time: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for typical daytime work and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for any overnight work (as needed)

Work details: This project includes coordinated road maintenance and infrastructure improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility and long-term road conditions, including:

  • Spot repairs to concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks
  • Adjustments to manholes and water valves in the street
  • Milling (removing) the top layer of worn asphalt
  • Repaving with new asphalt
  • Repainting pavement markings and crosswalks
  • Minor landscaping and driveway tie-ins

This work aligns with the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.

Traffic impact: Traffic impacts are expected throughout the duration of the project and may include the following:

  • Weekday impacts
    • Two-way traffic: For much of the project, two-way traffic will be maintained with an altered centreline in place. This is expected to be the default traffic condition during this project.
    • Stop-and-go traffic: Some stages of work may require stop-and-go traffic in the project area.
  • Night and weekend impacts (as needed)
    • Stop-and-go traffic: Some work may take place overnight or on weekends when necessary. During these times, work in certain locations, including signalized intersections, may require stop-and-go traffic to help minimize impacts during daytime hours.

Local access and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Sidewalk impact: Sections of sidewalks may be temporarily closed as work progresses. Marked detours will be in place.
