Cyclist critically injured after colliding with open vehicle door

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a vehicle bicycle collision that occurred in Halifax. 

On October 30th at approximately 3:23 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle bicycle collision in the 5800 block of Spring Garden Rd. A 23-year-old male cyclist travelling East on Spring Garden Road collided with the open door of a parked vehicle. The cyclist was transported to hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries. 

Countless injuries of cyclists have happened already in 2024, and over 70 in 2023. Spring Garden Road was closed to all traffic between South Park Street and Summer Street while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the collision. Spring Garden Road re-opened at 5:30 p.m.

No official update has been provided on the victims condition since the incident. Police are asking anyone with video or information about this incident to contact police at 902-490-5016.
