Dal Dance Presents: Inspirations Dal Dance Presents: Inspirations

It’s that time of year again DAL DANCE RECITAL TIME!! Recital day is my favorite day of the entire year! I think I love it more than Christmas, my Birthday, and even Easter (that’s when you get chocolate so that’s saying somethin’!) Every year DalDance rewards their hard working dancers from beginners to advanced with allowing them the opportunity to perform live on stage at the Rebecca Cohen. For some it will be the first time they have ever stepped foot on stage, and for others it is something they’ve looked forward to all year. It is a full day event for the dancers with long dress rehearsal in the afternoon, combined with last minute practices and reviews, but it when it all comes together it’s pretty incredible to watch.
A completely full day full of dance, costumes, makeup and madness? What’s not to love? I pretty much would take ANY excuse to dress up in fun costumes and wear false lashes, but throw dancing into the mix and I’m in full blown heaven. I have been part of the Dal Dance Society since my first year of university, and it’s amazing to see how much the society has grown over the years. It is even more impressive to see how every year we manage to put on an amazingly entertaining show. This year I taught an amazing group of girls Belly Dance and I honestly could not have asked for a better class! Belly Dance is definitely an interesting class to teach, as it is both challenging physically as well as mentally. It takes some guts to shake parts of the body that you try your hardest to keep from shaking (i.e. your butts cheeks for instance). It takes a lot of courage to get up in front of group and people and coordinate yourself to music in a manner that is prescribed by someone else, and my girls have been more than enthusiastic about their piece this year. I can’t wait to see them on stage shaking what their mama gave them! So proud of you girls; you have NO idea.

I love the excitement of show day! It goes by so fast, and it’s almost bittersweet when it ends. This year I am going to try to take more photos to document the day; it goes by so fast and I always regret that I didn’t take more photos. It’s probably also one of the most exhausting days of the year (dancing from 12-9) and then going out for more dancing after, but it also couldn’t be any more fun! If you live in the Halifax area be sure to come out and see all of our hard work pay off this year live on stage at the Rebecca Cohen at the Dalhousie Arts Centre and I promise you will be entertained from beginning to end!
