Dal Student, Stephen Gregory Tynes Faces Additional Weapons Charge

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on August 20, police received information that a man had made threats against two Halifax residents with connections to Dalhousie University. With the assistance of Colchester RCMP, Stephen Gregory Tynes, 30, was located and arrested in Truro at approximately 8:20 p.m. on the same day.

Tynes appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on August 21 to face two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and one count of engaging in threatening conduct directed at the other person or any member of their family. He was then remanded and was later released on conditions by a Provincial Court Judge following a bail hearing.

As a result of the investigation, Patrol Officers executed a search warrant on a residence in the 1000 block of Tower Road on August 21 and seized firearms, ammunition and related equipment. Based on further investigation by investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and members of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, Tynes has now been charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited device under Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code in relation to an overcapacity cartridge magazine. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on September 15 to answer to the charge.
