Dancers Needed for Games’ Opening Ceremonies

Dozens of local dancers are being offered a chance of a lifetime.

The Halifax 2011 Canada Games Host Society will cast 60 dancers as volunteer performers in the Opening Ceremony that will kick off the two week event.

Auditions will be held Friday, Jan. 7, at the Canada Games Centre, 26 Thomas Raddall Dr., at 3:30 p.m., with all roles being cast that evening. Rehearsals will begin the next day.

Dancers must be 15 years old, have a strong background in jazz dance, and be available for all rehearsals leading up to the live performance Feb. 11. For more information, visit canadagames2011.ca/artists .

The Opening Ceremony, held at the Halifax Metro Centre and produced by Patrick Roberge Productions, will be broadcast to a national audience.

"We are looking for dancers full of enthusiasm ready to celebrate Halifax with the rest of Canada," said Patrick Roberge. "They will have an amazing experience as they create lasting memories in this once in a lifetime event."

Tickets to the Opening Ceremony can be purchased through Ticket Atlantic online, by phone or at the Ticket Atlantic box office.

The 2011 Canada Winter Games will be the largest multi-sport event held in Nova Scotia and Halifax's first Canada Winter Games. Held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games are a key event in the development of Canada's young athletes, producing the next generation of national, international and Olympic champions.
