Dartmouth North Community to paint “HOME is where the heART is…”

Friday, July 26, 2013 (Halifax NS) – On Saturday, July 27, beginning at 12 p.m.

, “The Take Action Society” is pleased to invite the community of Dartmouth North to participate in a Placemaking Project. “HOME is where the heART is…” will become a community painted pavement mural that represents the history of Dartmouth North and all that makes the community home to its residents.

This community event will be held outdoors at Harbour View School, 25 Alfred Street in Dartmouth North, Saturday, July 27 from 12 noon – 6 pm. Citizens of all ages are invited to attend this free event as neighbours join together to paint the 130 ft long design. Artist Anna Stowe will be on hand to provide guidance.

HRM Recreation will lead activities and games for children and youth. There will be a hot dog barbecue, snacks and drinks throughout the day. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, July 28, 2013.

This project is financially supported through the 4Cs Foundation, and made possible through HRM’s new Placemaking Program, which encourages communities to apply to paint their neighbourhood street intersections. Communities work collaboratively with HRM and artists to design their project and host a street painting event. The program provides neighbourhoods with the opportunity to organize and propose community art projects on city property that bring activity to shared public spaces, give a sense of place and build community spirit.

Is your neighbourhood interested in placemaking? For more information and applications for the Placemaking Program go to www.halifax.ca/culture/CommunityArts/Placemaking.html.

Deadline for applications is October 31, 2013.
