With a municipal election just around the corner a group of residents from the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre are getting together to tackle the community’s dire voting rates, which are 8 to 9 times lower than in other parts of the district.
This Friday they are launching an eight-week campaign aimed at increasing community awareness and participation in the upcoming municipal election. The group calls itself Noise from the North and their campaign is called Speak Up. Show Up.
They’re organizing weekly events, starting with a Voter Pop-Up this Friday designed to help people ‘practice’ the art of voting – and culminating in a Voting Party and Parade on Election Day, Saturday, October 15.
