A Dartmouth producer has been given the opportunity to make her first feature film.
Brittany Amos was selected as the recipient of the First Feature Project for Your Money or Your Wife. The project is a partnership between Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia and Telefilm Canada.
Her selection was announced at the 2014 Atlantic Film Festival industry awards Sunday, Sept. 14.
“I am thrilled to have been awarded this incredible opportunity. There is nothing more exciting to me than bringing a script to life, and writer-director Iain MacLeod and I are looking forward to doing just that,” said Ms. Amos.
“We’re grateful to have a strong support system behind us, including executive producer Marc Almon. This is a huge stepping stone in our careers.”
The First Feature Project was established in 2011 and provides $120,000 to support a producer-writer-director team.
“Local filmmakers continue to showcase Nova Scotia through their accomplishments. Partnering on initiatives like the First Feature Project allows the province to provide emerging filmmakers with an opportunity to gain experience and exposure,” said Michel Samson, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.
“The investments made to date through the partnership have not only helped to support our local talent base, but have also showcased Nova Scotia internationally.”
Your Money or Your Wife follows the story of Lionel, a normally cautious man who has just been dumped by his girlfriend. He begins to drink and ends up as the victim of mistaken identity, leading to his participation in a home invasion when he falls for the homeowner Annie, and assumes the real robber’s identity.
“Project recipients have experienced great success and continue to move forward with their respective projects,” said Linda Wood, director, business and legal affairs, Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia. “Last April, 2012 recipient Bunker 6, was screened at Sci-Fi London Film Festival, and the 2013 recipient Lure debuted at the Atlantic Film Festival.”
“We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia. This gives both organizations an enormous opportunity to discover and support new Canadian talent,” said Anne Frank of Telefilm Canada. “Brittany Amos presented the jury with compelling creative material and a solid and organized package.”
