Dartmouth shooting nets attempted murder charges

Halifax Regional Police has charged a man in relation to a shooting yesterday in Dartmouth.

On February 19, 2024 at approximately 3:10 a.m., police received a report of gun shots in the area Catherine Street and Lahey Road in Dartmouth. Officers arrived on scene and located a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Officers arrested a suspect in the area a short time later without further incident.

Trequawn Smith, 23-years-old, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Use of firearm in the commission of offense
  • Careless handling of firearm x 2
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of prohibited device
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle x 2
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition x 2

Investigators from the Integrated Criminal Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information about illegal firearms should contact police at 902-490-5016.
