Dartmouth/Bedford arenas to remain open for pre-season ice play

Thursday, March 15, 2012 – Three HRM ice surfaces that had been previously scheduled to close during the upcoming pre-season ice period will now be staying open. Bowles Arena (Dartmouth), Gray Arena (Dartmouth) and LeBrun Arena (Bedford) will be open to user groups in September for pre-season play.
After consultation with HRM Councillors and both user groups of the facilities, HRM Community and Recreation Services made the decision to leave all three arenas open this season and are investigating ways realize alternate cost efficiencies in other operational areas.
HRM staff are currently producing a Long Term Arena Strategy which will provide a framework for HRM’s ice surface availability in the coming years.  The Long Term Arena Strategy is scheduled for completion and presentation to Regional Council in June 2012.
