Dear Cameron: A Love Letter to my One Year Old

Dear Cameron,

Joyous.

That’s the word. The word I would use to describe everything. This past year? Joyous. My life as your Mommy? Joyous. The person that you are? Joyous.

Cameron, this past year has been the best year of my life. The moment you were born, my life changed. You made me a Mommy. You showed me a level of love that I never knew existed. Watching you grow and learn has opened my eyes to a whole new world that I never realized existed. Sharing discoveries with you brings beauty and excitement to each new day.

Your Dad and I love you, Cameron. We are so proud of you and we cannot imagine our family without you. Each day, after we have tucked you in bed and kissed you goodnight, your Daddy and I often talk about how magnificent you are. Some days we sit and marvel at your cuteness. Other times we boast about your accomplishments. Still other nights, we lay in bed and just gush about our love for you. You are the light of our lives, Cameron. You have added another piece to our family and we would not be whole without you.

We have been doing this for a year.

Because today, you turned one.

You’ve already proved yourself worthy of the toddler title. At nine and a half months, on the last day of 2010, you took your first steps and were soon walking non-stop. Your curiosity abounds, and toddling provides an excellent means to discovery. We are constantly amazed at the sheer number of things you can do and the amount of things you can get into.

As you continue each day to get older and bigger and stronger and smarter, I need you to know that you will always be my baby. That is true today and it will be true on your fifty-fifth birthday. My son.

I love you Cameron.

Happy Birthday.

Lovingly,
Mommy
