Detour Digest: Macdonald Bridge closed all weekend, major Chebucto, Herring Cove road and provincial highway work

Macdonald Bridge Closed to Vehicles This Weekend

Big one here. The Macdonald Bridge is closed to all vehicles from Friday, January 9 at 8 p.m. through Monday, January 12 at 5:30 a.m. for maintenance.

If you’re walking or biking, the pedestrian walkway and bike lane stay open, but expect some delays. Traffic control will be on site to help direct things.

Plan to use the MacKay Bridge instead, and give yourself extra time since everyone else will have the same idea.

Chebucto Road Closed This Weekend

Heads up if you’re traveling through the west end this weekend. Chebucto Road will be closed between Windsor and St Matthias streets starting Saturday morning.

The closure runs from 8 a.m. Saturday, January 10 through 6 p.m. Sunday, January 11 to allow crews to safely install power poles and lines for the new development at 2300 Windsor Street.

A marked detour will be in place, but expect delays. If you can swing around via Quinpool or Mumford, you’ll probably save yourself some time.

Herring Cove Road Delays Saturday Afternoon

If you’re heading down Herring Cove Road this Saturday, slow your roll. Expect traffic delays between Aikenhead Road and Sarah Drive from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on January 10.

The work is part of the municipality’s ongoing plan to build out a safer, more accessible mobility network in the area.

Highway 103 Lane Closures for Blasting

Traveling the 103 between Hubbards and Chester? Watch for brief lane closures for blasting work, happening most weekdays around 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. until May 2027. Both lanes close for about 10 minutes at a time.

Good news: no blasting after noon on Fridays, on holidays, or weekends.
