Detour Digest Oct. 16: Advisories for Jennett, Oxford, and Caldwell roads, Transit route 72 detours

Hey Halifax, the cones are multiplying again. Crews are back across HRM next week with overnight line painting, full closures, and even a Route 72 bus detour through Burnside.

HRM roadwork

• Mon–Fri Oct 20–24 – Jennett Avenue (Burnside)

Between Burbridge and Guildford avenues | Closed 7 a.m. Mon to 5 p.m. Fri

Utility work in progress. Full closure with marked detour in place. Expect delays and use alternate routes.

Transit impact:

The following stops will be closed:

• Wright Ave after Burbridge Ave (8857) – Route 72 only

• Jennett Ave after Guildford Ave (2289)

• Jennett Ave after John Savage Ave (2288)

• John Savage Ave after Wright Ave (2287)

Temporary stops:

• Jennett Ave before Wilkinson Ave (2290)

• Wright Ave after Wilkinson Ave (8856)

Route 72 detour: Wright Ave → Burbridge Ave → Jennett Ave → Wilkinson Ave.


• Fri Oct 17 (8 p.m.) – Sat Oct 18 (5 a.m.) – Bedford Highway (Rockingham / Kearney Lake area)

Between Flamingo Drive and Kearney Lake Road | Overnight line painting

Stop-and-go traffic while crews work. Expect delays and consider alternate routes.


• Fri Oct 17 – Cow Bay Road (Eastern Passage)

From Civic 625 to Oceanlea Drive | 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Stop-and-go traffic for road repairs. Expect short delays; use alternate routes.

• Mon–Wed Oct 20–22 – Cow Bay Road (Caldwell Rd to Heritage Hills Dr)

Overnight line painting | 7 p.m.–7 a.m.

Stop-and-go traffic each night. Drivers should expect delays and take alternate routes when possible.


• Mon Oct 20 – Spring Avenue (Dartmouth)

Between Clysdale Drive and Collins Grove | 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

Rolling closures for road repairs. Local and emergency access maintained, with marked detours in place. Expect delays and use alternate routes.


• Sat–Sun Oct 18–19 – Oxford Street (Halifax)

Between Quinpool and Jubilee | 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

Rolling closures for road repair. Local and emergency access maintained.


• Mon–Wed Oct 20–22 – Caldwell Road (Cole Harbour)

Between Hornes and Birchill | 7 p.m.–7 a.m. (overnight)

Line-painting work. Stop-and-go conditions; allow extra time.


• Thu Oct 23 (10 p.m.) – Fri Oct 24 (5 a.m.) – Dutch Village Road (Fairview)

Closed between Sunnybrae and Central for gas-line adjustments under the Complete Streets project.

Detours in place for Routes 28 & 137 via Alex St / Main Ave / Titus St. Pedestrian access and business entry maintained.


Provincial roadwork

• Halifax County – Hwy 102 Exit 2 Inbound Ramp

Reduced-width lane drop for maintenance near Bayers Lake. Expected completion by Oct 15; confirm status on 511.

• Victoria County – Seal Island Bridge

Oct 16–24 | Single-lane reduction for repaving. Traffic control on site daily 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
