Detour Digest: Big Closure on Dahlia St. and a Week of Overnight Delays

Happy Monday! We’re kicking off the last week of October with some significant new road work in HRM, including a long-term closure in Dartmouth. Here’s a look at what to plan for.

New HRM Work Starting This Week

Dahlia Street 24/7 Closure (Dartmouth)

This is the big one for Dartmouth commuters. Dahlia Street, between Maple and Beech streets, is closing down completely for street upgrades1.

• When: This closure starts today (Monday, Oct. 27) and will be in place 24/7 until Friday, November 21.
• Impact: The street will be fully closed to traffic, with a marked detour in place³. Local and emergency access will be maintained.
• Other Impacts: The bike lane will be closed ⁵, but the northside sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians.

St. Margarets Bay Road Overnight Work

Crews will be doing overnight road repairs on St. Margarets Bay Road, running from Chandler Road to Bowater Mersey Road7.

• When: This work runs from Monday, Oct. 27, to Friday, Oct. 31.
• Time: The delays will only be active during the overnight hours, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Impact: Expect an altered centreline and stop-and-go traffic during these times.

Ongoing Delays Around HRM

Just a reminder that these projects are all continuing until at least the end of this week:

• Highway 107 (Lower Sackville): The two ramp closures at Exit 4C (the northbound on-ramp to Highway 102 and the southbound on-ramp at the new overpass) are still in place until Friday, Oct. 31. Detours are via the roundabouts.
• Highway 118 (Dartmouth): Expect one lane of traffic from Micmac Boulevard to south of Exit 13E. This is scheduled to last until Saturday, Nov. 1.
• Crowell Road (East Lawrencetown): This road is reduced to one lane between Route 207 and Marjorie Drive for construction until Friday, Oct. 31.
• Peggys Cove Road: A long-term project continues to have one lane of traffic from Indian Point Road to Trunk 3 on weekdays until Friday, Nov. 28.

Provincial

If you’re commuting on the 100-series highways, here are the main delays to plan for:

• Highway 102 (Enfield): Paving continues on the southbound lanes.
  • Between Exit 7 and Exit 5A, the road is reduced to one lane 24/7 (with some exceptions) until Friday, Oct. 31.
  • Between Exit 7 and Exit 8, expect one lane during weekdays from sunrise to sunset, also until Friday, Oct. 31.
• Highway 102 (Millbrook to Shortts Lake): Southbound lanes are reduced to one for paving daily until Friday, Dec. 12.
• Highway 101 (Hantsport): The westbound lane just past Exit 8 is reduced for guardrail repairs until Friday, Oct. 31.
• Highway 101 (Horton Bridge): The eastbound lane is reduced for repairs until Thursday, Nov. 6.
