Develop Nova Scotia will help connect communities and create vibrant places that strengthen the province’s economy.
Minister of Business Geoff MacLellan introduced the Develop Nova Scotia Act today, Sept. 7, formally providing the Crown corporation with a new provincewide mandate.
Under the new act, Develop Nova Scotia, formerly the Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd., will be responsible for managing strategic economic infrastructure projects across the province.
The Crown corporation will also develop and oversee plans to improve high-speed internet service in underserviced areas, building on Brightstar Canada’s recommendations presented to government earlier this year.
“Connected communities promote innovation and drive a strong, diverse economy,” said Mr. MacLellan. “The team at Develop Nova Scotia has the expertise to lead important, inspiring projects, and I expect they will help many communities across Nova Scotia become even more attractive places to live, visit and do business.”
Develop Nova Scotia’s new name and provincewide mandate were first announced in July.
