DHBC Partners with Tall Ships Nova Scotia 2009 to Present Crew Parade

Halifax, NS – For the first time, the Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) is partnering with the Waterfront Development Corporation Limited (WDCL) to present the 2009 Tall Ships Festival Crew Parade on Saturday, July 18, starting at 10:00 am.

“It’s wonderful to have events, like Tall Ships, that can engage an entire city and beyond,” said Paul MacKinnon, DHBC Executive Director. “A parade like this is especially exciting because it draws locals and tourists to our beautiful downtown. We’re happy to be involved with the Crew Parade portion of this exciting community event.”

The Parade will travel north along Lower Water Street and Upper Water Street and disperse past Casino Nova Scotia. Hundreds of crew members in uniform, costumed animators and marching bands are expected to participate.

“The Crew Parade is one of the events that’s held at each of the ports in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge race series. It’s a great opportunity for the crew to showcase their cultures, music and pride and excitement in taking part in this international event,” said Leanne Strathdee, Event Director for Tall Ships Nova Scotia 2009. “We are pleased to partner with DHBC on the Crew Parade to bring a little Tall Ships energy and excitement through downtown on Saturday, July 18.”

DHBC also presents and coordinates the successful annual Chronicle Herald Holiday Parade of Lights. The Parade of Lights has grown, since its inception 14 years ago, to attract 100,000 spectators to downtown Halifax every November. It is a natural fit for DHBC to partner with WDCL this year to assist with coordinating the Tall Ships Crew Parade logistics.
