Dingle Tower closed; renovations won’t be complete until 2012

The Dingle Tower at Sir Sandford Flemming park will stay closed until next year. It’s still wrapped in white plastic, although renovations were supposed to be finished this weekend.

Water got inside the wall, weakening the structure and causing it to split inside. HRM Council has put $425,000 towards restoring the tower. HRM asked the federal government to match that money, but didn’t get that grant request.

This means the city will have to provide the money in next year’s budget. The scaffolding will be removed by the fall, while the tower stays closed.

CBC News had more on this issue July 28.
