Dispose of Your Household Special Waste at Mobile Drop-off Depots

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents looking to dispose of household special waste that isn’t accepted in curbside collection can visit one of the upcoming Household Special Waste Drop-off Days in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents looking to dispose of household special waste that isn’t accepted in curbside collection can visit one of the upcoming Household Special Waste Drop-off Days in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The mobile drop-off depot will be in Porter’s Lake this Saturday, April 26, at the Metro X Park & Ride at 21 Inspiration Dr. (Exit 20 on Highway 107). It will be in Dartmouth the following Saturday, May 3, in the lower parking lot of Mic Mac Mall.

These mobile drop-off depots will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

Materials that will be accepted at the household drop-off depot include batteries, leftover liquid paint, leftover corrosive cleaners, pesticides/herbicides, gasoline, fuel oil and used motor oil, solvents, thinners, pharmaceuticals and drugs, aerosol cans containing hazardous substances, barbecue propane tanks, and small propane cylinders (for example, those used for camp stoves and propane torches).

The HRM also operates a permanent Household Hazardous Waste Depot at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr., in the Bayers Lake Business Park. Drop-off times are on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., as noted in the schedule posted online at http://www.halifax.ca/wrms/hhw.html.

The Household Special Waste Depots are open only to residents in the Halifax region. Business waste is not permitted.
