Someone has been spotting coyotes along Lucasville Road, and provincial wildlife officials think it may be one they already know about: a coyote with three legs.
MLA Rick Burns said Wednesday that his office reported the recent sightings to the Department of Natural Resources. The department asked whether people might be seeing the same three-legged coyote it has already had reports about.

The department is asking anyone with more information or photos that could help identify the animal to come forward.
You can report a sighting through the province’s online Coyote Sighting Form. It asks for:
- Where you saw it
- The date and time
- How many coyotes you saw
- Any behaviour that concerned you

Burns said reporting sightings helps the department track coyote activity and understand what’s happening in the community.
Coyotes are nothing new here
The province says coyotes are permanent residents in Nova Scotia, so seeing or hearing one now and then isn’t unusual. They’re most active at night.
Coyotes are normally shy and afraid of people. According to the province, the worry starts when they lose that fear, and that’s nearly always caused by people feeding them, directly or indirectly.
