The second episode of Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 aired last night, and was definitely funny enough to keep my hopes very high for this series. We saw Chloe try and hook June up with her father of all people, while James Van Der Beek decided to try his hand at teaching acting.
I think what I liked best about this episode was that we got to see the crazier side of June. Girlfriend is kind of a mess, but in a completely opposite way than Chloe. Sure, Chloe has no morals – but June brings Ziploc bags of lemon wedges to bars!
I also loved how the writers managed to keep surprising us. First we learn that Chloe wants to set June up with some guy named Scott. You expect him to be horrible, but he and June actually really hit it off. OK, great – but after making out a little, June finds out he’s Chloe’s dad. Ew! June is grossed out, but eventually comes to terms with the whole thing and agrees to see Scott again. She even sympathizes with Chloe when Chloe says that her parents are separated and her mom is a terrible bitch who never took her figure skating or horseback riding.
Enter Chloe’s mom…via wheelchair! Didn’t see that one coming. Suddenly June is the horrible other woman. And later, when Chloe pushed her own father into the bike lane, I laughed with evil delight again. I thought the whole storyline was perfectly zany and ridiculous.
Meanwhile, the JVDB stuff hasn’t gotten old. His hilarious rivalry with James Franco, his desire to be seen as something other than Dawson, his tailor who I hope becomes a recurring character. I loved it all. I know theDawson’s Creek jokes will have to taper off eventually, but I think JVDB has been a funny enough character so far that he’ll continue to deliver comedicly even when not relying on his famous character.
The only part of the series that isn’t working for me right now are the creepy neighbors. Particularly the stalker girl – they need to either be fleshed out or phased out. But other than that, I’m very much enjoying Apartment 23 so far. What do you guys think?

Chloe: “That was a long night.” - Chloe felt like her mom always wanted her to ask why she’s in a wheelchair, so she never did.
