Halifax District RCMP wants you to keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
In an effort to improve road safety, Halifax District RCMP is getting creative. The motoring public is advised that starting today, Halifax District RCMP officers will be in plain clothing and operating unmarked vehicles while monitoring for drivers who ignore the laws of the road.
“Failing to stop at a stop sign, not wearing your seatbelt, not yielding to pedestrians in a crosswalk, and texting or talking on your cell phone while driving will get you a ‘meet and greet’ with a Halifax District RCMP officer,” says Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP. “If you don’t want to meet the officer, then all you have to do is be a safe and responsible driver.”
Cpl. Hutchinson adds, “Far too often we see drivers who are in traffic with their heads down. This greatly increases their chances of not seeing a stop sign or pedestrian in a crosswalk. We want to remind motorists that the road is in front of you, not on your lap.”
Halifax District RCMP will be conducting similar traffic enforcement initiatives throughout Cole Harbour, Lower Sackville, Tantallon and surrounding communities in an attempt to make the roads safe for everyone.
