Mental health expert Dr. Stan Kutcher will spend three days in Cape Breton, beginning today, June 26, gathering information about the mental health needs for young people in the community.
During his visit, Dr. Kutcher will talk privately with families in Sydney Mines and Sydney who are dealing with recent tragic losses. He will also talk to school staff, community partners and the public to help determine what initiatives can help address mental health concerns on the island.
There will be public meetings with Dr. Kutcher today at 7 p.m. at the North Sydney Fire Hall, 17 Pierce St. and on Tuesday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Lake Road Fire Station, 850 Grand Lake Rd., Sydney.
In addition, summer resources are available for students and families in the area. SchoolsPlus offers direct support and programming. The Caperbase Outreach team, SchoolsPlus facilitators, community outreach workers and mental health clinicians can be reached through Child and Adolescent Services Cape Breton at 902-567-7731.

Dr. Kutcher will report back to Health and Wellness Minister Randy Delorey and Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill.
