Driver airlifted to hospital after head-on crash

RCMP release:

Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating a serious collision that occurred on Hwy. 103 in Clearland, Lunenburg County.

On October 22, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 103 in Clearland. RCMP officers learned that two SUVs, a Ford Edge and a Volvo XC40, had been travelling in opposite directions on Hwy. 103 when they collided head-on.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the Ford, a 34-year-old Simms Settlement woman, suffered life-threatening-injuries and was transported to hospital by Lifeflight.

The driver of the Volvo, a 68-year-old Sydney woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. She was later transferred to a hospital in Halifax.

The passenger of the Volvo, a 79-year-old Howie Centre woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hwy. 103 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
