At 12:03 P.M. this afternoon a pickup truck was in the intersection of Taranaki and Forest Hills Drive to make a west bound turn onto Flying Cloud Drive.  The traffic light had turned yellow and the Pickup truck then proceeded to make a legal left hand turn.  The driver of the Pickup observed a Van in the distance start to speed up once the light turned yellow.  The Van struck the Pickup truck in the intersection, lost control and struck a traffic light pole.
The traffic light pole came down and struck a 49-year-old male who was standing near the intersection in the head.  The 49-year-old male was transported to the hospital by EHS with serious injuries believed not to be life threatening.

RCMP are charging the driver of the Van with Failing to Yield to a Vehicle already in an Intersection.
