Driver charged after MVA on Merrimac Drive

Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Halifax District assisted Halifax Regional Police(HRP) with a vehicle who refused to stop for an officer.

At 10:50 P.M. last evening an HRP officer activated his lights and siren to stop a vehicle on Merrimac Drive. The vehicle a black Ford F150 then accelerated away from the officer who called for assistance from the RCMP. The officer advised RCMP that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate and was turning off his emergency equipment.  The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed a short distance on Silistria Drive where the driver was unable to negotiate a curve and struck two parked vehicles.  The driver exited the vehicle, proceeded to run from the RCMP who arrested him immediately.

The driver Roland Alexander BEALS (May 25, 1969) was held in custody and will be appearing in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Dartmouth, N.S. today on charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Refusal, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, and Driving While Prohibited.
