At 7:33 p.m. Halifax District RCMP stopped a 22-year-old male driver operating a motor vehicle at 173 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, near exit 21 on highway 107.
The driver, from Lake Echo, was charged under section 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act with stunting, which occurs when a driver is going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. He was given a $2422 fine, his licence is suspended for a minimum of seven days, and his vehicle was seized.
A 19-year-old male and 19-year-old female were also in the vehicle with the driver.
The RCMP is committed to ensuring the safety of all persons on the highways of Nova Scotia. Driving at these speeds is extremely dangerous and the RCMP is constantly patrolling the highways of the province to ensure speed limits are enforced, and driving at excessive speeds is deterred.
