Driver facing charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm

**** RCMP Media Release

Shortly after 9 p.m. on May 15, Kings District RCMP responded to a call indicating a car went into the ditch and the driver took off on foot. This occurred on Ward Rd. in Greenwood Square, which is East of Greenwood. Witnesses told police the driver was impaired by alcohol, and one witness tried to stop the driver from driving.

RCMP officers arrived on scene where the vehicle was located in the ditch, but no one was in the vehicle. They were assisted by witnesses who provided information about the location of the occupants. Police located a man and a woman sitting in the ditch near the location of the collision. The man fled into the woods on foot, but the police officer chased him for a short distance and he was arrested without incident. The female also fled the area on foot and was located in the ditch on the opposite side of the road from where police initially saw the two. EHS was called to check both individuals, as the female was injured. Police offered the male a medical assessment by EHS but he refused. The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man from Greenwood, was taken to Kingston Detachment for a breath test. His readings were more than twice the legal limit of 80 mg%. He was placed in cells for the evening. He is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm, Operation of a Conveyance While Over 80 mg%, and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 30 in Kentville Provincial Court.

The investigation is ongoing.
