A 31-year-old man from Halifax is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police and leaving his sleeping child alone in his car.
Shortly after 8 p.m. last evening, Halifax District RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Nissan Altima on Raymond Dr. in Lower Sackville. The initial investigation determined that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and the car was not registered. As the officer was conducting further checks on the vehicle, the man left the scene on foot and entered a nearby home. He then ran out the back door of the home and away from the area. His 5-year-old son was left sleeping in the back seat of his car.
The man was located a short distance later with the assistance of the Halifax Regional Police K-9.
As a result, a 31-year-old man from Halifax has been charged with the following offences under the Motor Vehicle Act:
· Operating a Motor Vehicle with a revoked license
· Operating an Unregistered Vehicle
· Displaying Cancelled Number Plate
· No Liability Insurance
He is also facing the following charges under the Criminal Code:
· Unlawfully in a Dwelling House
· Obstructing a Peace Officer
He was released on a Promise to Appear for Dartmouth Provincial Court on October 18, 2017.
