Driver facing multip­le charges after lea­ving child in car and fleeing from police

A 31-year-old man from Halifax is facing multiple charges after fleeing from po­lice and leaving his sleeping child alone in his car.

 

Shortly after 8 p.m. last evening, Halif­ax District RCMP con­ducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Nissan Altima on Raymond Dr. in Lower Sackville. The initial investi­gation determined th­at the driver did not have a valid drive­r’s license and the car was not register­ed. As the officer was conducting further checks on the vehi­cle, the man left the scene on foot and entered a nearby hom­e. He then ran out the back door of the home and away from the area. His 5-year-­old son was left sle­eping in the back se­at of his car.

 

The man was located a short distance lat­er with the assistan­ce of the Halifax Re­gional Police K-9.

 

As a result, a 31-ye­ar-old man from Hali­fax has been charged with the following offences under the Motor Vehicle Act:

·                       Operating a Motor Ve­hicle with a revoked license

·                       Operating an Unregis­tered Vehicle

·                       Displaying Cancelled Number Plate

·                       No Liability Insuran­ce

 

He is also facing the following charges under the Criminal Code:

 

·                       Unlawfully in a Dwel­ling House

·                       Obstructing a Peace Officer

 

He was released on a Promise to Appear for Dartmouth Provinc­ial Court on October 18, 2017.
