DUI arrest with child in vehicle

A 26-year-old man from Middle Sackville faces impaired driving charges after a concerned caller contacted police in regards to a possible impaired driver. A child was located inside the vehicle.

On May 22, 8:25 p.m., Halifax Regional Police received a call of a possible impaired driver in Halifax. The caller provided a description of the vehicle and the license plate number to police. A member of the RCMP Southeast Traffic Service located the vehicle a short time later, in Lower Sackville. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested. A child was located safe inside the vehicle and was placed in the care of a responsible person. The driver was taken to the Lower Sackville RCMP detachment where he provided samples of his breath. The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on August 26 at 9:30 a.m.

If you drive impaired, you put yourself and others at risk. There is always an alternative to driving while impaired. The RCMP wants to encourage everyone to report suspected impaired drivers. The RCMP can be contacted anywhere in Nova Scotia by calling 1-800-803-RCMP. If it is an emergency, call 911, and be prepared to provide the following information about the vehicle and/or the driver:

  • license plate number
  • make and model of the vehicle
  • description of the driver
  • location of the vehicle and direction of travel
