DUI charges against driver of transit bus

Halifax Regional Police has charged the driver of a Halifax Transit bus in relation to a motor vehicle crash last night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. officers responded to a single vehicle crash at Long Lake Drive in Halifax. A Halifax Transit bus operator had driven a bus into a ditch while trying to turn the bus. There were no passengers on the bus at the time. Officers detected signs of impairment from the driver and demanded a roadside screen test, which the driver failed. The driver was arrested, and officers seized alcohol containers before taking the driver for an evidentiary breath test.

The driver, a 64-year-old man, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of operating a conveyance while impaired and operating a conveyance with over 80 mg% of alcohol in the blood.
