The Halifax Regional Municipality in association with the Sackville Rivers Association will hold a free public event to celebrate Earth Day 2011.
A guided and interpretive walk of the Sackville River, along the Bedford-Sackville Greenway Connector (a multi-use trail connecting the communities of Bedford and Sackville) will commence after the opening remarks.
Kelly Regan, MLA Bedford-Birch Cove, Tim Outhit, HRM Councillor District 21, and SRA President Walter N. Regan, will deliver the opening remarks.
Date: Saturday April 16th, 2011 opening remarks begin at 9:30 am
Where: Meet at the Bedford Lawn Bowling Club, 1800 Bedford Highway and walk along the Bedford-Sackville Greenway Connector.
The public is encouraged to participate and find out about the river, the watershed, and their water footprint. The water footprint of an individual, community or business is defined as the total volume of freshwater that is used to produce the foods and services consumed by the individual or community or produced by the business. Water use is measured in water volume consumed and/or polluted per unit of time.
Bags will be available for participants to collect waste accumulated on the trail over the winter.
Refreshments will be provided.
