Elections Nova Scotia Media Release – e-Ballot will Begin Tomorrow

Release:

Elections Nova Scotia – Nominations for the provincial general election close today, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 2 pm. Early voting before the close of nominations is done using write-in ballots. After the close nominations early voting is done by Elections Nova Scotia’s secure e-Ballot system which will begin tomorrow, Thursday November 7, 2024.

e-Ballot is in-person digital voting at a voting location using a secure tablet. The e-Ballot system is safe and allows voters to select the candidate of their choice on a secure tablet behind the voting screen. Once a vote is cast, the e-Ballot system produces a paper ballot for the voter to place in the ballot box.

e-Ballot allows fast and secure counting of early votes when the polls close on election night. This means the results of the provincial general election will be returned quickly and efficiently.

e-Ballot will only be used after the close of nominations for early voting prior to election day. Traditional paper ballots will be used for voting on election day in Nova Scotia, Tuesday, November 26, 2024

The Government of Nova Scotia made amendments to the Elections Act in 2021 to provide authority for e-Ballot. Elections Nova Scotia has developed the secure e-Ballot system and is confident in the integrity of this innovative voting method.

e-Ballot is not internet voting. E-Ballot takes place in-person at a voting location on a secure tablet while internet voting is remote voting. Internet voting will not be used in the provincial general election.

Voters in Nova Scotia that have questions about the provincial general election can call 1-800-565-1504.
