HALIFAX, Dec. 13, 2011, 2011 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) –Today, Halifax Regional Municipality approved Emera's investment in the Halifax Skating Oval. Emera is pleased to partner with HRM and other community minded partners to make the Emera Oval a reality for our community.
"Emera and its shareholders are extremely proud to support our local community. As an international energy company, based in Halifax, our roots and the majority of our employees live and work here," says Chris Huskilson, President and CEO, Emera Inc. "I know every member of the Emera family looks forward to joining our community in sharing this wonderful facility."
The Oval was originally built last winter for the Halifax 2010 Canada Games, but quickly became a popular spot for friends and families to enjoy a leisurely skate. With Emera investing $500,000 over 10 years and the support of other community partners, the Emera Oval will now become a permanent fixture on the Halifax Commons. It is expected to open on December 23(rd).
Like other community investments made by Emera and its affiliate companies, the Skating Oval will be funded by Emera shareholders. For more information on other Emera community investments, please visit www.emera.com
