Friday, Mar. 20, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the Emera Oval is closed effective immediately as a result of significant snow accumulation on the oval surface and the plaza.
The Emera Oval was originally scheduled to close today for the winter season but it was hoped that operations could be extended through the weekend and the end of March Break. Despite a cold winter that created favourable ice conditions for facility users most of the season, the facility generally closes by the end of March Break as the position and angle of the sun this time of year can make it more difficult to maintain good ice conditions.
The municipality thanks residents for making this season at the Emera Oval another success, with over 137,000 visitors this winter. We look forward to welcoming you at the facility again for the summer skating season. Stay tuned to @SkateHRM on Twitter or SkateHRM on Facebook, for details of the summer skating season and progress on the construction of the new permanent building, which will become available over the next few months.
Residents are reminded that recreation programming at other municipally-owned facilities resumed today following closures earlier this week as a result of the storm. Although most recreation facilities are open as per their regular schedule, residents should call ahead to individual facilities as there may be a delay or closure for their specific location. Additionally, residents should be aware that facility parking may be limited due to ongoing snow clearing operations.
