Emergency water main repairs underway: South End Halifax and Lower Sackville locations

Halifax Water crews are responding to two separate emergency water main repairs, one in Halifax and one in Lower Sackville, resulting in temporary water shutoffs and traffic disruptions in both areas.

Halifax: Atlantic Street and McLean Street

Crews are on site at the intersection of Atlantic Street and McLean Street undertaking an emergency water main repair. Water service has been temporarily shut down in the surrounding area, and there is currently no estimate for service restoration.

Stop-and-go traffic is in effect through the work zone, with experienced traffic control personnel managing vehicle flow. Sidewalks remain open. Motorists should expect delays, use alternate routes where possible, and are reminded that speed fines double in work zones.

Customers in the area may notice discoloured water during or after the repair. Halifax Water recommends running cold water at one faucet until the water runs clear.

Lower Sackville: near 22 Mowat Crescent

A second emergency water main repair is underway near 22 Mowat Crescent in Lower Sackville, where water service has also been temporarily shut down. As with the Halifax repair, there is no estimated restoration time available.

Traffic is reduced to stop-and-go in the work zone, and traffic control personnel are on site. Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes.

Residents may experience discoloured water during or following the repair. Running cold water at one tap until it clears is advised. Issues related to discoloured water can be reported through Halifax Water’s website.
