- In HRM 181 Million Litres of domestic sewage and storm water are trated every day (the equivalent of 25 Olymic sized swimming pools)
- When deciding if a beach is swimmable, they only test for 2 parameters: Fecal Coliform and Fecal Enterococci
- Contaminants found in waste water and sludge include: pharmacuticles (including unabsorbed estrogen from birth control), detergents, engine oil, household products, heavy metals, pesticides, fertilizers etc
