Environment Canada issues “Flash Freeze” warning

All of the rain we're getting could turn quite treacherous overnight as temperatures fall.

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West continued

Rapidly falling temperatures and icy road conditions are expected as strong northerly winds develop after midnight.

An intensifying low pressure system over Northwestern Nova Scotia will track across the Southern Gulf of St Lawrence tonight. Periods of heavy rain are expected over the eastern half province tonight ahead of the system giving rainfall totals of 30 to 60 millimetres. Near the New Brunswick border the precipitation will fall mainly in the form of snow with some occasional freezing rain.

Strong southerly winds will become northerly and will spread across the province overnight and early Saturday morning behind this system ushering in freezing temperatures. Some areas will see gusts to 90 km/h. Rapidly falling temperatures and periods of snow will accompany these strong northerly winds leading to icy road conditions late overnight and early Saturday particularly over the western half of the province.
