Events All Weekend to Celebrate 120 years of Natal Day

Tuesday, July 28, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Bring your family and friends, it’s time to celebrate 120 years of Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day when the Bell Aliant Natal Day Festival kicks off this Friday, July 31.

The four-day festival features 30 events, many of them free, including family activities, live concerts, pancake breakfasts, one of the oldest parades in Atlantic Canada and a spectacular fireworks show launched from a barge in the middle of Halifax Harbour.

To accommodate the many citizens attending Natal Day events, Halifax Transit is offering free ferry service at its Alderney and Halifax terminals all day on Saturday, Aug. 1. A complete list of Natal Day events is available online at www.natalday.org. Some highlights include the following:

  • Laugh the night away Friday at the Natal Day Comedy Night at Casino Nova Scotia, featuring comedians John Wing, Adrian Cronk, Shannon Laverty and host, Graham Chittenden. Admission is $15 and the show starts at 8 p.m.
  • Join Mayor Mike Savage and members of Regional Council at a garden party at the Halifax Public Gardens on Saturday, presented by Southwest Properties. There will be live music at the bandstand, refreshments and children’s activities. The event runs from 1-5 p.m.
  • The Bell Aliant Natal Day Festival Concert gets going at 5 p.m. Saturday at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth. This year’s free show includes great local talent, including Mo Kenney, Kim Harris, Gary Beals and David Myles.
  • Catch the Natal Day fireworks Saturday evening at 10 p.m. Watch from the concert or anywhere along the Halifax or Dartmouth waterfronts. The rain date is 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.
  • Bring the kids and head to the Natal Day Family Celebration Sunday on the Halifax South Common, presented by GoodLife Fitness. The fun gets going at noon and continues until 7 p.m., with a visit from rag doll Lalaloopsy and Tommy and Tallulah from Tickety Toc, train rides, bouncy castles and other free children’s activities.
  • The 120th Pepsi Natal Day Parade presented by The Chronicle Herald takes place at 10 a.m. Monday. The parade starts on Novalea Drive and continues across the Macdonald Bridge to Sullivan’s Pond. Due to the Big Lift construction, spectators will not be allowed on the bridge or in the toll plaza to watch the parade. See the entire parade route at www.natalday.org.
