Events at the Bedford Public Library

The library’s book club is a great way to meet new people, explore new authors and share reading ideas.

On Tuesday, May 26 at 2 p.m. the book club will be discussing An Audience of Chairs by Joan Clark. Registration begins April 28.

On Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. learn more about the new Tax Free Savings Account introduced by the federal government, as well as investment options and how it can help you save money on income tax. Registration required.

On Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. jazz up your spring with the Clas Larsson Quartet. The Clas Larsson Quartet will perform jazz numbers from New Orleans blues and Dixieland to mainstream standards. Registration required.

On Wednesday May 13 and 27, and Wednesday June 10 and 24, meet and play bridge with other bridge lovers, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Some experience necessary. Registration required.

Reminiscing: Dartmouth 1945-1955. Designed to kindle memories and raise awareness of local history, this “Reminiscence Kit” program explores Dartmouth’s history with photographs, audio clips and historical artifacts, in partnership with the Dartmouth Heritage Museum. This event takes place on Saturday, June 27 at 2:30 p.m.

On Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. learn some computer basics with an introduction to computers. No experience required. Registration begins May 5.

An introduction to navigating the Internet and using a net browser takes place on Saturday, June 6 at 10 a.m. Registration begins May 5.

On Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m. learn to send, reply, forward and delete email. Prerequisite: How to Navigate the Internet or familiarity using web browsers. Registration begins May 5.

Power Googling is an advanced level course. On Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m. learn to build a more effective Google search using special features. Prerequisite: Internet Searching Made Easy or proficiency with Internet searching. Registration begins May 5.

Get help with your English language skills at volunteer tutor programs sponsored by Halifax Public Libraries and the Nova Scotia Department of Immigration. This program takes place on Mondays at 1:30 to 4 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Teen ESL is open to teens needing help with their English language skills. For more information, call Tatjana at 490-5757. This program is co-sponsored by the Cobequid Community Health Board and takes place on Tuesdays at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Introduce your child (0-35 months) to the wonderful world of books. Enjoy stories, songs, rhymes, puppets and musical instruments. This event takes place Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. until May 19.

For ages 0-5 come by for a fun French playtime! Socialize and play using French books, toys and other materials. Venez vous amusez! This event takes place Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. until May 19.

Stories, songs, finger-plays and rhymes help children 3-5 years old gain pre-reading skills and develop a love of reading. This event takes place Fridays at 10:30 a.m. until May 22.

Puppet shows for all ages take place on Thursday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. (Beauty and the Beast) and Thursday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. (Chopsticks the Mouse & the Chinese Dragon).
