Tuesday, July 5, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, Fall River Road between Highway #2 and McPherson Road will be closed for approximately six weeks. The closure is to accommodate the construction of a new McQuarrie Bridge on the Fall River Road.
The work includes removing the existing bridge and replacing it with a new bridge. The new bridge will have wider lanes and a concrete sidewalk on the north side of the bridge.
The entire project is expected to take approximately 10 weeks. There will be a temporary pedestrian bridge installed near the existing bridge to accommodate foot traffic across the waterway during construction.
During the closure of Fall River Road, local traffic will be detoured around Windsor Junction Road, Cobequid Road, and Highway #2. The length of the detour is approximately 14.1 km.
A fire and emergency protection plan has been created to maintain the safety of residents and businesses in the area. The plan will see the complement of four career staff at Station 45 (Fall River) repositioned to Station 41 (Waverley), by the Rocky Lake Drive/Highway #2 intersection. Two career staff from elsewhere will be brought in to staff Station 45, meaning there will be six career firefighters covering the area.
The municipality apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this closure/detour may cause.
