Family Pet Shot and Critically Injured, SPCA Seeks Information from the Public

On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, The Nova Scotia SPCA cruelty office received a concern from a veterinarian In Oakland, NS who was treating a cat that had been shot in the head.

The cat had been rushed to Oakland Veterinary Hospital by its owners after the cat found its way home, having been critically injured.

The cat, “Vox”, had to undergo surgery to repair his broken upper and lower jaw and remove bone   and bullet fragments.  Dr. Greenlaw of Oakland Veterinary Hospital said that the type of bullet used was one that fragmented into several pieces and was not a pellet or “BB” type bullet. Vox, the cat will have to be syringe fed and undergo several weeks or months of nursing care to hopefully recover from the incident.

The Nova Scotia SPCA is asking the public for assistance for any information regarding someone shooting a firearm in the area of Back Cornwall Road, New Cornwall, NS between July 30th and July 31st, 2018.  All calls are confidential.

Chief Provincial Inspector, Jo-Anne Landsburg said, “this is heartbreaking that someone’s pet has to go through such a tragic incident. This type of situation would be an offence under the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia and the Criminal Code of Canada. Any public assistance with information would be helpful.”
