Fatal collision on Highway 101

At 6:45 p.m. last evening, a man died when the vehicle he was driving crossed the centre line of the highway and struck another oncoming vehicle. The collision occurred near Exit 23A, and the weather conditions were poor at the time.

The deceased is a 71-year-old man from Yarmouth, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was accompanied by a female passenger, who sustained moderate but non-life threatening injuries. The two occupants of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries.

An RCMP Traffic Analyst was called to examine the scene for evidence. Highway 101 was closed near the collision scene for several hours, and was re-opened to traffic shortly after 1 a.m.The matter remains under investigation.
