Fatal house fire in Stillwater Lake

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Release:

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on March 26, firefighters were called to a report of heavy smoke in a home on Buckingham Drive in the community of Stillwater Lake.  Arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire in the building and reports of a man inside the home. Firefighters entered the home and despite dangerous and difficult fire conditions were able to remove a man to the outside. Paramedics and firefighters provided medical treatment at the scene but the man did not recover.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of everyone impacted by this tragic fire. Firefighters work hard every day to reduce the impact of fires to residents in our municipality. Any loss of life to fire is heartbreaking.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.

RCMP Release:

On March 26 at 7:50 p.m., members of the Halifax District RCMP responded to a house fire on Buckingham Drive in Stillwater Lake. Upon arrival at the scene, a 64-year-old woman from Stillwater Lake was located outside the home with non-life-threatening injuries. A 67-year-old man from Stillwater Lake was located inside the home and pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was inside the residence at the time.

The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time, however the investigation is ongoing.
