Fatal house fire: RCMP investigating

Meteghan RCMP is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred on Hwy. 1 in Grosses Coques.

On June 14, 2023, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Meteghan RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a structure fire on Hwy. 1 in Grosses Coques. Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers learned that one person was unaccounted for and believed to be inside the fully engulfed home. Once the fire was extinguished, RCMP officers confirmed that a 47-year-old woman was inside the home and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Initial information and evidence collected as part of the investigation has determined that the fire is not suspicious in nature.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office.

Hwy. 1 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
