At 2:38 a.m. this morning, Inverness District RCMP responded to a serious single-vehicle crash in the area of Fox Lane on Highway 19 in, Newtown. Also assisting in the response were EHS, Port Hasting Fire Service, TIR and Nova Scotia Power.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the single-vehicle carrying three young adults male occupants left the roadway. One occupant who is from Port Hawkesbury was pronounced dead at the scene and the other two were transported to hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 19 is closed in the area and is not expected to be re-opened to traffic before mid-morning. Local traffic is advised to use Highway 105 – General Line Road to Creignish Mtn Rd. (or reverse) to avoid this area.
The cause of the crash is being investigated with the assistance of an RCMP Traffic Reconstruction Analyst.
