L-A: Welcome to your Friday! I know I’m stoked to see it. There’s a bottle of wine with my name on it. Speaking of which…the favourites! There are seven, so that’s one for everyday of the past week. Or something! (I’m pretending it was intentional).
1. If my name were Heavyweight, it’d be all over this bottle
Ally is the best co-blogger, friend, cubicle neighbour EVAR. I will never share her with others. Because she got me a bottle of wine and brought it to work for me and I have been waiting ALL WEEK to try it again. You see, I had a glass a week and a half ago at The Carleton and I was smitten. So I went in search of it and discovered it’s only available at Harvest Wines in the suburbs. Naturally, since Ally is in suburbs, I texted her and she went out and got me some wine.
2. Blog project
My friend Ellie and I have lots in common, but perhaps our strongest common bond is that we are both utterly and completely and unreasonably anxious over everything. Like high fives. So we are blogging about our unreasonable anxiety. (We also have strong shared opinions about the serial comma, but we won’t start a blog about that.
3. My pretend boyfriend just got dreamier
I didn’t think it was possible, but his DJ’ing of a Month of Sundays on BBC6 is the dreamiest. He’s a dreamy encyclopaedia of pop music. And you often can’t go wrong with a guy who reminds you that you need more Jackson Five in your life. Unless that man is Ryan Murphy, the dude behind Glee. Because you can go very very wrong with him.
(I’m pretty sure I found this thanks to Martin. Once again, Martin finds us a favourite for Friday!)
4. Jazz Age Lawn Party would be an excellent reason for me to buy Monday’s Child
The Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party is happening this weekend and it makes me wish I could head to NYC for it. I either need to make a road trip to New York next summer or somehow make this happen on George’s Island in the Halifax Harbour next summer. Or both. Who wants to join the planning committee? George’s Island Jazz Age Party 2013 y’all! (we could put Theodore Tugboat in a bowtie to take folks out there).
5. Rachel Bilson is wearing my shoes.
Okay, technically, I have Rachel Bilson’s shoes. They’re my shoe mint shoes and while I love them, I question whether you could trek about your rural town and work 12 hours as a doctor in those (I spotted the shoes on Hart of Dixie, which I was catching up on recently). I can’t even drive in them.
6. It just occured to me that I’m streaming music, using photoshop, blogging and looking at gifs.
At the same time. And my computer is still working. Oh happy day!
I mean, at some point the computer will get all outdated and stop working as well. But in the meantime, I am PUMPED to have a computer that works properly.
7. Your hipster jam of the week: Japandroids.
When not listening to the Jackson Five and Otis Redding this week, this is a song I have been digging:
I believe I’ve shared it before. But whatevs! I’ll share it again!
8. Oh forget what I said about a favourite for every day of the week: my friends are in Faces Magazine!
bahahahahaha. Best. (I’m never going to get voted for anything in Faces now).
9. Intern Krista Favourites!
Benedict CumberBeast
As you already know, I am a fancy lady with sophisticated tastes. My favourite thing this week is National Theatre Live replay of their recent production of Frankenstein, featuring Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch alternating the lead roles. The production I saw featured Jonny Lee Miller as Frankenstein and the CumberBeast as the Creature, a gripping performance that started with him roaming around the stage for the first twenty minutes in a loincloth. Empire Theatres is showing two performances, and I’ve already made plans to go back next week to see Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature and Benedict Cumberbatch as Frankenstein. Theatre!
[L-A note: shit. I should have gone to see this. Must make plans for next week].
Sweet Summer Threads
Summer means skirts and I am a skirt fiend. For reasons that are dumb, skirts are only available in one length each year and this year happens to be the year where they are pretty short. That said, I’m dreaming about both of these from Anthropologie:
The Civil Wars
I don’t understand some of the musical selections that make their way onto the blog. To counter all of the Yelawolf, I’m offering up a stunning over of Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back” by the Civil Wars. This is probably a hipster jam, but I think we can all agree I’m not that cool.
[L-A note: serendipity! I have been listening to actual Jackson Five this week! In fact, it was this song I’ve been listening to.]
Summer travel fun
Burning Love
1. I think I like a good musician!
I can find crappy music faster than a 14 year old designing a make-out mix. Coming into contact with good music? That’s rare for me. I’m late to the party on Marina and the Diamonds, but better late than spending any more time listening to Nickleback (no! I don’t! I’m joking!). This is my new theme song:
2. I’ve met heaven.
Yes, friends. From July 11 to September 2, Toronto’s Dance Exchange is showcasing 73 dance costumes to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The National Ballet of Canada. Field trip?
3. Nurse Jackie
4. It’s now 8am so I’m just gonna go on and give you your Crappy Pop Video of the Week.
This one is actually country, called Canadian Girls. Cringey-poo.
